STUTTGART, Germany –U.S. European Command at Patch Barracks recently held a three-day Command and Control (C2) Summit designed to build a shared understanding of C2 innovation and transformation efforts among a broad group of stakeholders.
The summit provided participants an opportunity for open dialog about current C2 challenges and opportunities, as well as discussion on modernization and future capabilities.
“Warfare is evolving, and command and control must keep pace. Russia remains a persistent and growing threat, now working more closely with China, North Korea, and Iran. The war in Ukraine has shown us that future conflicts will not only be fought alongside Allies, but will be fast-moving, multi-domain, and increasingly influenced by artificial intelligence, said Maj. Gen. Pete Andrysiak, U.S. European Command chief of staff.
“To stay ahead, we must rethink how we command and control forces—how we see ourselves, how we see the enemy, and how we empower leaders to make decisions faster than our adversaries. This summit is about building a smarter and faster command and control system that gives our commander the advantage in any fight. Right now, outdated systems and manual processes are not optimized to enable the advantages a fully modernized C2 system could provide. We must modernize by integrating AI and leveraging real-time data to accelerate our ability to make decisions.”
C2 Summit participants included leaders from U.S. Army Europe and Africa, U.S. Naval Forces Europe and Africa, U.S. Air Forces Europe and Air Forces Africa, U.S. Marine Forces Europe and Africa, U.S. Special Operations Command Europe, U.S. Space Forces Europe and Africa and 16th Air Force, along with representatives from Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), various Department of Defense agencies and industry leaders.
The event featured presentations describing how U.S. European Command and its component commands are transforming and modernizing C2, to include the implementation new data analysis and decision-making tools. Additional briefing topics included AI, updates on SHAPE C2 initiatives and resourcing strategies. The briefings and panel discussions supported the understanding of C2 tools as integral to delivering the modern and effective command structure needed to enable real-time decision-making with the quality and speed necessary in modern conflicts.
