Twenty new military chaplains of the Armed Forces of Ukraine recently graduated from a chaplain training course led by the 7th Army Training Command, in Grafenwoehr, Germany, April 8-19, 2024.
"This is the fourth iteration of the two-week course and is a joint, total-force, and multinational endeavor, with representatives from the United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands and Canada assisting or observing the training," said U.S. Army Chaplain Lt. Col. Patrick Lowthian, course director.
The course is designed to enable chaplains to conduct combat ministry by working together in an ecumenical and multi-faith environment, in order to provide spiritual support to all military personnel and their families, while also providing expert religious advisement to their commanders.
"What the Armed Forces of Ukraine Military Chaplaincy Service has accomplished in just over a year is extraordinary,” said U.S. Air Force Col. Christopher LaPack, U.S. European Command Chaplain. “They've built, from scratch, the second largest military chaplaincy in the world, bringing vitally needed religious support and spiritual resiliency directly to their warfighters as they courageously defend their homeland."
The 7th Army Training Command, headquartered in Grafenwoehr, Germany, provides world-class training to U.S. and allied forces in Europe.
