U.S. European Command’s plans and strategy directorate pulled its experts together to discuss how to best engage and operate with Allies and partners to address shared security challenges during the EUCOM Strategy Implementation Conference in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, from Aug. 21-25, 2023.

“USEUCOM strategy and Deterrence and Defense of the Euro-Atlantic Area implementation is how we build Alliance capability and capacity,” said U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Daniel Lasica, director of Plans, Policy, Strategy and Capabilities. “What we’ve been able to do these past few days is take strategic guidance and boil it down to actionable security cooperation – whether it’s combined exercises to improve our ability to operate alongside Allies and partners, or transferring a U.S. carrier strike group to NATO control for a period of time to increase NATO readiness and interoperability – those actions start with planning here.”

The EUCOM Strategy Implementation Conference is an annual conference that provides a planning venue for EUCOM staff, components and security cooperation stakeholders to chart a path toward achieving theater objectives. This forum allows security cooperation stakeholders to gather and coordinate future operations, activities, and investments across Europe alongside Allies and partners.
